Finance University | John Chambers College of Business and Economics

For the past 22 years, Finance University has brought a university-level immersion
into the changing world of personal finance to West Virginia’s educators. The
weeklong seminar provides educators with interactive presentations that build
their own financial literacy, wh
ile providing them with financial literacy tools and resources to help elementary,
middle and high school-aged students to better understand personal finance.
Experts from the region offer classroom tools and materials, online educational
programming, and answer the questions that will change your understanding of
personal finance.

In 2024, the CFLE partnered with PRA Group to host close to 50 teachers in Morgantown, WV for the event. Teachers enjoyed presentations from NextGen Personal Finance, the Federal Reserve Bank, FoolProof, Troutwood, Take Charge Today (TCT), EVERFI, IRS VITA program, the West Virginia Department of Education, the West Virginia State Treasury’s Office, and several others.

This year’s conference, under the theme “Teaching Personal Finance for Lifelong Success” will feature some presenters from prior years as well as some new additions such as Equitable Advisors, a sponsor of this year’s event.

The seminar:

  • is open to all primary and secondary educators free of cost
  • includes your hotel room, breakfast, lunch, and other fun activities!
  • is recognized as a best practice for teacher training by the U.S. Financial
    Literacy Education Commission (U.S. FLEC)
  • satisfies the West Virginia Department of Education’s requirements to attain
the Personal Finance Education Specialist advanced credential (24.4.9)
  • offers three hours of professional development credit

If you are willing to take a week of your summer to learn more about earning,
spending, saving, investing, and protecting your money, we are committed to helping
you earn the credit hours and advanced credentials associated with this program.
You are certain to build lasting friendships with your colleagues from all over
the state and have the opportunity to share experiences with leading experts
in their field.
