ROCKVILLE, MD, November 07, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ — Darren D. Love, PsyD, MSCP, CPM, clinical health psychologist with Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, was selected by Marquis Who’s Who for a prominent feature in the October 2025 Washington, DC, regional issue of TIME magazine.
Since beginning his career nearly 25 years ago, Dr. Love has established himself as a standout voice in the fields of health care and mental wellness. After starting as a certified nursing assistant in 2001 with Banner Health, he transitioned to a noninvasive cardio technician position in 2005. Dr. Love shifted his focus to psychology in 2007 when he started graduate school at Midwestern University. He completed an internship with Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints in 2011. He gained further experience as a licensed clinical psychologist at Psychology Specialists LTD, the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and Thriveworks Administrative Services LLC.
Since 2020, Dr. Love has served as a clinical health psychologist at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. This role showcases his commitment to aiding veterans and active duty service members. Alongside his work at Walter Reed, Dr. Love opened his own virtual private practice, Love Psychological & Consulting Services, PLLC, in 2021. He specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy and hypnosis to treat those living with chronic pain and other chronic medical conditions. Dr. Love utilizes his dual mastery of medical science and clinical psychology to give patients insight into medications and other treatment options to empower them to improve their overall quality of life.
Dr. Love’s path to success was paved by hard work in the face of adversity. He was the only African-American in his doctoral program and had to push back against expectations and skepticism from others. Dr. Love believes that more people of color, especially men, are needed in psychology, as some patients only feel comfortable communicating about themselves to someone from a similar cultural background or experience. He passionately advocates for minorities in his industry through mentorship of psychology interns and practicum students and provides education to other medical professionals about multicultural issues when necessary.
As he progresses in his professional life, Dr. Love is dedicated to becoming board-certified in health psychology, further demonstrating his skill. Additionally, he has completed a master’s program in medical cannabis sciences and therapeutics at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. This addition to his education will allow him to explore more avenues for assisting his patients in gaining control over their pain and educating medical providers about the benefits of medical cannabis.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Before venturing onto his vocational path, Dr. Love built a strong foundation in his education, including a double bachelor’s degree in psychology and life sciences from Arizona State University, a master’s degree in biomedical sciences from Midwestern University in 2007 and a doctorate in clinical psychology in 2011. In 2019, he obtained a Master of Science in psychopharmacology from New Mexico State University. His work has been further supported by several certifications, including status as a clinical hypnosis provider through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and pain management through the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress.
